Isn’t fashion all about change? Then how can it be timeless? “Fashion” is a context in which talking about timelessness may sound paradoxical. It is quite contradictory and that’s what makes this topic more intriguing.
Everyone likes fashion, they love those seasonal trends, they like investing in fashion, especially the ones that are “timeless”. A fascinating term of fashion design which deserves to be discussed in greater depth. Don’t worry. I am not going to bore you by writing a 2000 words blog post. I will keep it crisp.
Some say that – Timeless is anything with a strong appeal of its own, a strong voice that breaks through the years passing or even centuries”. Some also say that – They are pieces that exist outside our notion of what fashion is and these items are quite neutral.
On one hand, the above said statements may sound correct, there is another way of looking at it and this makes complete sense –
What is timeless fashion?
If year after year, customers buy certain styles of garments over and over again. Like the blue jeans, white T-shirt, black shoes, trench coat, plaid shirt etc, then the life cycle of the style is termed as Timeless. In short, it has longer life cycle than other fashion items.
Timeless has become a term quite commonly used to describe items that have survived decades. It just makes so much sense now. Doesn’t it?
I actually have come across so many people who use this term but when asked, stalls. The Gucci bag, the Levi 501 jeans model, the Birkin bags, the Louboutin red sole shoes, Burberry trench coat are few examples of what timeless pieces are.
What makes a piece Timeless? Whats the secret?
If you ask me, I would say – the design, craftsmanship, the utility aspect of it and the wearability. You also got to make it desirable. Adding to that – It is the result of a good trend forecasting with an intensive study of customers behavior, culture, religion etc and of course a little bit of luck.
So in short, making a design which is timeless is a huge deal. The factors that need to be kept in mind are not only vast but also tedious. It requires intense research, developing of one of a kind design and then marketing it the best way possible.
